Burnett is a small manufacturer of custom air filtration products.
The design, engineering, testing, machine building, and prototyping work
described, is solely mine.
Designer of industrial, commercial, automotive, and military air filtration
Designer of specialized production machinery.
Developed and launched of our 'Truck Engine Filter' production division.
United Parcel Service needed an improved air filter for their delivery vans.
The competition's products were inspected, disassembled, and subjected
to destructive testing.
Improvements in materials, filter construction, and manufacturing processes
were developed. Resulting in robust product for the demanding
environments of the customers fleet, ranging from Fairbanks Alaska -17 F
to Death Valley +125 F.
Created all 2D and 3D Cad drawings and models, air-flow calculations and
modeling, BOM's, environmental tests, laser programs, production fixtures,
and production floor workflow.
Specified all production equipment, including welding, dispensing,
polyurethane mixing, sheet metal forming, and filter media pleating.
Qualified all outside vendors for injection moldings, silicones, urethanes,
steel, sealants, fabricated assemblies, master molds, and adhesives.
Designed, built, and programmed all specialized machinery- automated
adhesive dispenser for filter end-caps, helical hot-melt bead applied to filter
media, and polyurethane curing oven. Documents included BOM’s, 2D Cad
drawings with GD&T, assembly drawings, electrical and pneumatic
schematics, and PLC ladder logic.
As of Fall 2017, UPS has logged over 2.5 Billion miles, on 'my' truck and
bus engine air-filters.
Initiated 3D printing department: Analysed the capabilities of available
industrial quality 3D printers,
selected the Stratasys-Fortus380 for its fine resolution and medium-large
Design and program machine to build, prototypes, tools, and fixtures.

Commissioned 8 axis Yaskawa (MotoMan) welding robot - responsible for
all programming, tooling, hardware troubleshooting, risk assessment, and

programming, work-holding tooling, cut condition troubleshooting, hardware
and software troubleshooting.
Worked alongside Mazak Optonics VP of Service, troubleshooting Mazak's

Designed and built special fixtures for burning three dimensional
BioDrill (division of Eltrex Industries)

Sole Designer of Biodrill's Model AD-200 Anaerobic Digester, a bench
scale fermenter/bioreactor, for classroom/laboratory modeling of biogas
production. This project required development of a compact 2-stage
continuously stirred digester, designed to provide optimized growth of
Methanogens require rigid control of temperature, pH, and feeding, within
an oxygen free environment.
Customers: SUNY Morrisville, Rochester Institute of Technology, and
Harvard University. (unit cost $15k-$20k)
Although no longer affiliated with this firm, I am still active in academic
operation of biogas equipment.

New production line start-up. Management of machinery, materials, and
production staff. Implemented lean manufacturing techniques, reducing
material handling time by 50%
Designed and maintained JIT purchasing system to manage a $6 million
per year contract of military communications equipment (Harris
Communications). Orchestrating multiple U.S. and European suppliers for a
100% on-time delivery schedule, while fulfilling a weekly changing forecast.
Designed and developed a polyethylene bottle assembly welding machine,
incorporating Through-Transmission-Infrared (TTiR) welding, producing a
15% greater tensile strength bond than a Nd:YAG laser, at 1/10th the
Laser optical resonator tuning and beam alignment - Northrup/Gruman 150
watt Nd:YAG lasers
Built and maintained inventory and purchasing spreadsheets to support the
JIT schedules of a daily changing, 24 hour fulfillment (Eastman Kodak

and forecasting spreadsheets.
Designed and developed continuous improvement programs within the
areas of machine maintenance, material handling, and ergonomics.
Cross-training Instructor. Responsible for all plant workers and the setup of
